Getting to the Maremma

The Maremma region of Tuscany is a little more remote, but combines the hills and the coast. It is well connected to the rest of Italy - so how you get there depends on where you're coming from and how much mobility you want when you're there.

Rome (FCO) - many direct flights from the US and UK, about 2h drive.Florence (FLR) - connecting from the US, direct from the UK, also about 2h drive.Milan (MXP or LIN) - for those who love a road-trip, about 4h 30min drive.

Driving

From Rome (FCO)

Leave the airport and take A-12 / E-80 Northbound (direction Civitavecchia). Eventually just north of Civitavecchia, the toll highway/motorway runs out and becomes the SS-1. It reverts to freeway just south of Grosseto. In total it’s 113 miles heading north; then take the exit for Braccagni onto SP-152 south, then a left to SP-157 east. La Pescaia is about 3 miles on the right.

From Florence (FLR)

Leave the airport and head over to A-1 / E-35 South (direction Roma) and in about 5 miles take SS-223 South (direction Siena). Stay on SS-223 after Siena (direction Grosseto). About 65 miles on SS-223 in total. Take the exit to Roccastrada. After Roccastrada, (about 6 miles) turn left onto the SP-157 and La Pescaia is 6 miles on the left.

From the UK

For those of you on a grand European driving vacation, you'll likely be coming in via Genoa and Pisa. You'll stay on the A-12 South (direction Roma) before taking the exit to SP-152 South (direction Braccagni). Turn almost immediately left onto the SP-157 and La Pescaia is 3 miles on the right.

By Train

From Rome Airport (FCO)

About 3 hours - mostly along the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea.1. Regional train from FCO to Roma Termini (central Rome); about 0h 30m and €14. 2. Frecciabianca train from Roma Termini to Grosseto (direction Pisa); about 1h 45m3. Regional train from Grosseto to Sticciano (direction Siena); about 0h 20mit may be better to take a taxi from Grosetto as there is not much at Sticciano station.

Getting there

There are essentially three types of accommodation in La Maremma: ** Hotels: ranging from 3* to 5* luxury, many with pools** AgriTurismos: independently owned farms with ranging from basic to luxurious.** AirBnBs: private homes available for rent, some with pools IMPORTANT - To help with booking in peak season, we are holding blocks of rooms at a few locations listed below that are close to La Pescaia. To book at Le Versegge, L'Andana or Val di Donna/Terzerie, you will need to either email or call directly, as the website will show as having no availability. Let them know that you are part of our wedding and they will be able to coordinate specific rooms and rates. Let us know if you encounter any difficulties. You can also book the Guadalupe Resort or other options independently. Booking.com has a good selection, including many of the agriturismos and private houses in the region. Remember, it is peak season in Tuscany - so book early for best availability. Either way, let us know where you book. PLEASE NOTE: we are only able to provide transportation to/from the accommodations listed below (including Guadalupe).

Two options: 1/ Book the room you want directly on the website, refundable or not, at the rates offered on the website. 2/ Email Frederica at eventi@andana.it and tell her that you're a guest at the Millar wedding - they have a reduced rate of EUR 790/night for a deluxe/junior suite or full suite. They will decide on the exact room at the time. The rate is non-refundable. But you get a suite for a reduced price. Please make sure to specify "Millar" when booking via email.

Given this is a bit more of a flexible gathering - we will not be providing transfers to the Pool Party. If you fancy a drink with your float, please have a designated driver to get you home safely!

YOUR DINNER CHOICE

The food is going to be amazing - we were lucky enough to get to try everything in Florence in January! To help the caterers and avoid waste, we promised that we would ask everyone to pre-select their entrees/mains: Fish:Sea bass filet on light peas cream with crispy potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Meat:Tuscan beef filet wrapped in crispy pancetta with Brunello di Montalcino red wine sauce and potato flan with orange scent. Also let us know if you would prefer a vegetarian option. We've repurposed the RSVP tab on this website to try and gather this information. Please complete for each person attending. It should take you to a multiple choice question, which should make its way to us. Any issues, email (jmillar50@gmail.com) or text (914-419-9390) and we'll figure it out so you don't go hungry! A formal printed invitation to the actual wedding will be forthcoming!

Beaches

We are in a part of Tuscany only 30 mins from the coast. There are beautiful sandy beaches running from Marina di Grosseto to Castiglione della Pescaia, as well as around Punta Ala. This photo is from our trip to the region in January, and even in winter, the beaches are beautiful. The closer you get to Castiglione della Pescaia, the more built up it gets, but that affords you a boardwalk and restaurants right on the beach.

Vineyards

It's Tuscany! There are so many vineyards to choose from, so these are just a few of the ones in the Maremma. For those of you with a car and some time, there are dozens more to choose from as you get closer to Montalcino (about an hour east of La Pescaia).

Le Mortelle

At the end of a long and bumpy road - but the building was designed by Renzo Piano (who also helped design The Pompidou Center in Paris, the Shard in London and the Whitney Museum in NYC). It has an amazing roof deck and the cellar is incredible.

Rocca di Frassinello

Beautiful winery and farm shop located only 10-15 mins from La Pescaia.

There are a ton of things to do in the Maremma region - visit <a href="https://www.visittuscany.com/en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.visittuscany.com/en</a> for some inspiration. But two to highlight would be:

Also known as Saturnia. An amazing set of hot spring pools cascading down to create a waterfall effect. The water is a constant 37C (98.6F for those on the Imperial scale). 45 miles / 1h 15m from La Pescaia.

Cascate del Mulino

Very cool sculpture garden about an hour south of La Pescaia, close to the Monte Argentario peninsula.
